INTRODUCTION TO OCCUPATIONS

Prerequisites: None

Every day, full year

This one year course is a requirement for all Occupational Education sequences. The first semester provides students with essential occupational skills including writing resumes, having interviews, maintaining bank accounts and balances and check writing. The second semester provides insight into a variety of occupations and the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in that position. All students are required to take a final exam.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER APPLICATIONS: WORD
Prerequisites: None

Every other day, 20 weeks

Students will learn to use Word, a word processing program, through practical applications. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint will provide the student with the information necessary for producing all high school and college reports. This course plus another introductory course meets the school keyboarding requirement.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER APPLICATIONS: EXCEL
Prerequisites: None

Every other day, 20 weeks

Students will learn to use EXCEL, a spreadsheet, through practical applications.
Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint will provide the student with the information necessary for producing all high school and college reports.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER APPLICATIONS: ACCESS
Prerequisite: None

Every other day, 20 weeks

Students will learn to use Access, a database, through practical applications. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint will provide the student with the information necessary for producing all high school and college reports.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER APPLICATIONS: POWERPOINT
Prerequisites: None

Every other day, 20 weeks

Students will learn to use PowerPoint, a multi-media presentation tool, through practical application. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint will provide the student with the information necessary for producing all high school and college reports.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

Prerequisites: None
½ credit
Every day, half-year

Students will develop effective communication skills through use of e-mail, memo and letter writing. Vocabulary and grammar are stressed through the development of listening, speaking and reading skills.

BUSINESS LAW
Prerequisites: None
1 credit
Every day, full year
LIU - Southampton
College - 6 credits, (optional)

Students will acquire an understanding of their legal rights as minors and adults, as well as practical aspects of business law, through role playing in an actual courtroom. This course, if taken for college credit, from Long Island University's Southampton campus, is a weighted course. Business Law meets the requirements for the fifth year of Social Studies and/or the sequence requirements of Business/Marketing Education.

ACCOUNTING
Prerequisites: None
1 credit
Every day, full year

LIU, Southampton College - 6 credits (optional)
Students interested in accounting and/or business administration will want to take this course of study. Simulations are used in order to give students an opportunity to apply the principles they have learned. This course, if taken for college credit from Long Island University's Southampton campus, is a weighted course.

PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING
Prerequisites: None
1 credit
Every day, full year
(LIU -Southampton College - 3 credits)

This one-year course is designed to provide the student with knowledge of basic marketing functions including how to transform an idea into a product that gets into the hands of the consumer. This course, if taken for college credit from Long Island University's Southampton campus, may be weighted.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Prerequisite: None
1 credit
Every day, full year

Students will learn how to start and manage a small business. This course will include the learning of selected entrepreneurial skills as well as management and marketing functions.
